I approached a few different garden building suppliers for my photography studio project, but as soon as I met Chris I knew I wanted to use Urban Spaces. Chris offered suggestions on window and door size/placement which I hadn’t considered, as well as different exterior finishes such as the Shou Sugi Ban and this created a point of difference with other suppliers. Chris also turned around 3D drawings of the building very quickly, so I was able to visualise the outcome. Pricing was competitive too.
Once the project was underway the Urban Spaces team were punctual and hardworking, and always polite and courteous. It was obvious the team had worked on several buildings together as they had a great rapport with each other, and this aided communication as the build progressed. The site was kept tidy throughout the build.
Having a studio in my garden has transformed my business and my motivation. Before, I was undertaking commercial food photography in my domestic kitchen which was incredibly challenging. Now, I have a dedicated creative space which I can close the door on when each shoot finishes. No spending hours clearing everything away! Plus, I’m not having to spend money on renting a studio and travelling to it – I just take a few steps into our garden!

We have a very awkward plot and a corner which was just being used as a dumping ground for toys and pots. Urban spaces were able to help us maximise this space for a very stylish work from home office and gym.

Quotes
From the start Chris was proactive in his approach. We had a good working relationship from the start and I found him very easy to talk to when trying to articulate the project. Both Chris and Donna took the time to listen and provide suggestions and insight based on his previous experiences.
I felt able fire back any questions or tweaks to the plan which unlike other companies did not feel like an inconvenience. I was able to completely customise the fit and finish with some extras such as joists for my pull-up bar and boxing bar. This level of customisation meant I could get most out of the studio.

The Build
Once confirmed, the team moved very quickly and were able to get the ground cleared and the basic structure up very smoothly. The team on the ground were polite and prompt and always had the time to explain what the plan was for the day and what to expect, which again made me feel like I was still involved with the decisions. As with all projects there are some unforeseen events and delays, but Chris and team managed to work around these without too much overall impact which is impressive during the pandemic. Again their communication was key here and I was always felt like I was being informed of what was happening and when this would be resolved.

Snagging
This is truly where Urban Spaces excel. Speaking either to the team on that day or Chris at the end of the day to raise a concern or question and without doubt it was resolved the next day. No hassle, no guilt trips, No “well you see..” Chris and the team really wanted the best looking studio and seemed to really care that I was 100% happy.
I’ve now been using the studio as my office and home gym for 6 months and it is brilliant space. I received a lot of comments from colleagues who are very jealous of have such as dedicated space.
