This family with two small children and their dog were looking to temporarily move out of their home whilst they undertook some major renovation work. Understandably, they were reluctant to spend the additional approximately £30k+ on renting another property for several months. They decided building an annexe in their back garden would be the perfect solution. It would provide them with somewhere to stay whilst the building work was being carried out, it would be an extended living space they could use afterwards and would also add value to their main property. A preferable solution to spending money on renting someone else’s property!

Our designers built some clever storage areas into this annexe to maximise the use of space. In the main annexe, we added a ‘hidden’ cupboard in the bathroom where we stacked the washer and dryer. In the living area we created a built-in area to put a fridge freezer and a microwave. In the separate adjacent store room, there was also space for an additional freezer, with rear access from the outside.

The garden itself was long but narrow, with a significant slope upwards. To manage this we created a beautiful stepped decking area at the front of the annexe, giving easy access to the inside and an area to enjoy a summer evening.

We successfully achieved a relatively quick turnaround for this project to make sure that the annexe was built and ready for the family to move into in time to minimise disruption of their building work.
